Akio Shikamura is a member of the Board of Directors and a senior managing director of DENSO Corporation in Kariya, Aichi, Japan. He oversees the Thermal Systems Business Group at DENSO Corporation.
After earning a mechanical engineering degree from Kyoto University's School of Engineering in March 1977, Shikamura joined DENSO Corporation (formerly Nippondenso Co., Ltd.) and went to work in the Air-Conditioning Engineering Department 2. While in this department, Shikamura researched and designed air conditioning systems for buses.
In 1992, Shikamura went to North America to serve as senior coordinator with the Production and Sales Group at DENSO Sales California in Long Beach.
In 1996, Shikamura returned to Japan and was named Overseas Design manager. In 2000, he was promoted to general manager of Air-Conditioning Engineering Department 1. There he was responsible for the development and design of car air conditioning systems for Toyota Motor Corporation.
Three years later, in January 2003, Shikamura was named president of DENSO Manufacturing Michigan.
In June 2004, Shikamura was named one of DENSO's managing officers. He was promoted to senior managing director in June 2010.
