DENSO Receives European Environmental Award
Date: 06/22/2004

DENSO Manufacturing Hungary first automotive company in Europe to receive this award

Tokyo - DENSO Manufacturing Hungary Ltd. (DMHU), DENSO Corporation’s manufacturing subsidiary in Hungary, has received a European Business Award for the Environment 2004 in the category of management practices from the European Commission. DMHU is the first automotive-based company to receive this award.

According to the award jury, the award was granted because DMHU has become a pioneer in environmental management. DMHU’s environmental plan resulted in a 30 percent reduction in packaging material, a 35 percent reduction in CO2 emissions, and a 40 percent reduction in water consumption. This plan also allowed DMHU to become the first company in Hungary to attain zero emissions.

“DMHU has always focused its efforts on environmental management,” said Yukimasa Ohoka, DMHU president. “This award is recognition of those efforts and a great honor for DENSO and for DMHU’s employees.”

The European Business Awards for the Environment are designed to recognize companies in the European Union (EU) that have made outstanding contributions to economic/social development without causing an impact on the environment in four different areas: management, products, processes and international cooperation. The prize winners are selected by a jury of experts including representatives from industry, NGOs, scientific organizations, and governmental bodies. Approximately 100 companies submitted entries this year, and four companies received awards.

DENSO has won several environment-related awards from domestic and foreign entities. In April 2004, DENSO earned the Climate Protection Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its electrical inverter air conditioning.

DENSO Corporation, headquartered in Kariya, Aichi prefecture, Japan, is a leading global supplier of advanced technology, systems and components. Its customers include all the world’s major carmakers. Worldwide, the company employs 95,000 people in 31 countries and regions, including Japan. Consolidated global sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004 totaled US$24.2 billion. DENSO common stock is traded on the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya stock exchanges.
